A raw pace sensation from Jammu & Kashmir, Umran Malik burst onto the scene with his exceptional bowling, grabbing global attention. Despite a fiery start, a series of injury setbacks halted his growth in the mid-way.
After missing out on the previous domestic season and even the IPL 2025, the ace pacer is set to make a comeback. As he is set to play the next match of the ongoing Buchi Babu Tournament, he revealed he’s prepared to tackle the challenges again.
Umran Malik Gears Up For A Powerful Return
Hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, Umran Malik turned heads with his outstanding bowling speed in the IPL 2022. After bringing fire on the pitch in that IPL season, he received an India call-up in the white ball format. Despite the brilliant start, his career paused due to a series of injury setbacks, and the pacer remained out of the action for a month.
As domestic cricket has returned with another thrilling season, the speedster is set to make a comeback after a long hiatus. As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, he expressed his excitement and determination to make this season a memorable one.
“I'm feeling good. I haven't played cricket for a long time. I was injured for seven-eight months. It was a struggling phase. It feels really good to be back. I have played a lot of red-ball and T20 matches in Kashmir. It was our registration camp. We have come to Chennai for the Buchi Babu [tournament]. It is good to play as many matches as I can. It is good for my body's workload. I've come back and will do well in the season. That's my aim, “ he said.
Charting His Path Back To Team India
After a sensational display in the IPL 2022, he made his India debut. Playing the last match in India’s jersey, he secured 13 wickets in 10 ODIs and 11 wickets in eight T20Is. Being out of the national setup, he’s focused on a powerful comeback through impressive performances in domestic cricket.
“Yeah, I'll be bowling in full rhythm now. I'm a sportsman and I don't pay attention to social media. Actually, I want to play cricket. I just want to protect my body from injuries, and I want to play cricket well. I want to play for India and that's my aim. I will play the matches after this Buchi Babu, and I think the Ranji Trophy. Hopefully, I can take wickets and make a comeback,” he added.
As the Buchi Babu Tournament is already taking place in Chennai, Umran Malik is missing out on the first phase. As Jammu & Kashmir is set to face Baroda on August 22, the speedster is set to be back in action.
