After the sensational T20I series win, Team India has shifted their focus in the upcoming ODI series against England. The series becomes extra crucial as it is their final assignment before stepping into the Champions Trophy. But Bumrah’s availability in the upcoming marquee event is still not confirmed.

After sustaining an injury in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the home ODI series against England, casting doubts over his Champions Trophy availability. In that situation, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri explained how Bumrah’s absence can impact the Indian side.

Ravi Shastri on Bumrah’s Potential Absence

After missing out on the final day of the Sydney Test in early January, Jasprit Bumrah is still out of the action. Despite being named in the ODI squad against England, Varun Chakravarthy replaced the ace pacer and that move raised doubts over his availability in the upcoming Champions Trophy. As the final call is yet to be taken, Ravi Shastri weighed in on how Bumrah's absence could impact Team India in the high-stakes tournament.

“Bumrah not fit will reduce India’s chances (of winning the Champions Trophy) by 30%, literally by 30-35%. With a fully fit Bumrah playing, you are guaranteed of those death overs. It would’ve been a different ball game altogether.” Ravi Shastri said.

Shastri Doesn’t Want To Hurry On Bumrah’s Comeback

Undoubtedly, Jasprit Bumrah is the main face of the Indian bowling attack. In the Test series against Australia, Bumrah proved his exceptional abilities on the big stage. With a packed schedule ahead, his role in the Champions Trophy and future tours is vital. While talking about that, Ravi Shastri urged the management to be patient, emphasizing that rushing him back could have long-term consequences.

“I think it’s high risk. There’s too much big cricket coming up for India. And at this stage of his career, I think he’s too precious to be just called on for one game out of the blue and asked to deliver. The expectations will be so much. They’ll think that he’ll come in straight away and set the world on fire. It’s never that easy when you come back from injury.” he added.

Before stepping into the last Test assignment before the Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma and Co. are ready to take challenges. With so many big stars’ arrival, the home side received a huge boost and is ready to face the visitors in the first ODI on February 6 in Nagpur.
