Gautam Gambhir highlighted Rohit Sharma's "selfless attitude" as key to his successful transformation into a top-order aggressor for India in One-Day Internationals.

The experienced Indian opener, who has been unleashing his wrath on opposition attacks throughout the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, is "not obsessed" with milestones and is therefore able to attack wholeheartedly at the top, the former India batter feels.

Being the captain of the side, Rohit has the luxury to decide the course of action and can set his eyes up for a long haul at the crease while catering to personal landmarks at the international stage. However, not once has the 36-year-old let his ego and desires fall in the way of the overall team goals.

Gambhir Hails Rohit's 'Selfless' Attitude

Gambhir, the 2011 champion, noted this as an attribute to Rohit's incredible impact at the top and also his lack of "40-45 hundreds" in One-Day cricket despite three memorable double centuries next to his name.

The ex left-hand batter turned commentator believes selflessness is also why Rohit has enjoyed spectacular success over the years in the Indian jersey and continues to leave his mark on the cricket field.

Rohit has made just two centuries in ODIs since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic but is averaging 50.07 with a strike rate of 111.82 for his runs in the post-2021 world, making a deeper influence on games by relishing a more solid Indian middle-order than existed in his prime as an anchor.

"Rohit Sharma would've got 40-45 hundreds by now, but he's not obsessed with hundreds. He's selfless," Gambhir said in a pre-match show on Star Sports.

Notably, the remarks were made when the discussion revolved around the legend of Virat Kohli and him nudging closer to a remarkable 50th century in One-Day Internationals. While Kohli, India's ever-solid and dependable anchor at No.3, has made 48 hundreds next to his name, Rohit has 31 centuries under his belt in his most productive format of the game.
