Bangladesh fans experienced absolute despair after their team's disastrous loss to the inexperienced Netherlands side in the ICC World Cup 2023 in Kolkata.

A healthy Saturday (October 28) crowd had gathered at the iconic Eden Gardens to support the Bangla Tigers, but the Asian rivals disappointed their fans with a lacklustre performance and heavy loss to the spirited Dutchmen.

As Bangladesh fell deep into their collapse chasing the competitive 230-run target and another defeat in the tournament became imminent, those fans began leaving the ground in the most painstakingly slow walk and only a few remained to watch the rest of the proceedings and vented out their frustration in recorded clips.

One of the fans was seen slapping his own face with a shoe in brash anger and asked the Shakib Al Hasan-led side to follow his suit. He was caught speaking about how Bangladesh fans had made their travel arrangements and accommodations in Kolkata to watch the team play live and anticipated a victory but all that money felt a waste in the end.

Bangladesh Fan Slaps Himself With Shoe In Anger

"We Don't Mind Losing To Big Teams. But how can you lose to the Netherlands? Shakib, Mushfiq and all Should Be Slapped with shoes. On their behalf, I'm slapping myself," the fan says in Bangla in the viral clip. "Fans Had To Endure Lot Of Difficulty To Get Budget Hotel Near Stadium Due To Excessive Booking. This is sad."

A fan who was filming the incident at the ground in Kolkata explained the reactions from the fans, who left the ground in long queues when Bangladesh lost their eighth wicket for just 113 in a chase of 230 against an understated Netherlands attack and were eventually bowled out for 142.

"People come from Bangladesh with a lot of sacrifice as they struggle for hotels, and rooms to stay. But this Bangladesh team can't even chase this small target. So all the people are leaving the stadium," the fan said.

It was Bangladesh's fifth consecutive defeat of a horrible campaign that began promisingly with a win over Afghanistan. The fixture versus the Dutch was considered an ideal opportunity for Shakib's men to get back to the winning ways. What transpired, however, was one of the major hammerings in favour of the tournament giantkillers.
