Former India veteran Ravichandran Ashwin took a hilarious dig at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) while vouching for Abhimanyu Easwaran in the national Test team.
In recent times, the IPL has been a breeding ground for scouting talent for India, be it white-ball or red-ball, with the likes of Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy emerging across formats after breakout IPL seasons. Mocking this parity, Ashwin took a swipe at the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee for always rooting for T20 performances.
Ashwin sharply slams BCCI over T20 bias
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin was sarcastically brutal on the BCCI after Abhimanyu Easwaran, a domestic veteran for Bengal, scored 130 runs in SMAT 2025.
"I'm excited about another person. The Test incumbent player who has always been spoken about, Abhimanyu Easwaran. He scored a hundred in T20 also now. Now we can get to see him for sure now. Given that he has now scored runs in T20, for sure we will get to see him in the Test team now," said Ashwin.
Notably, on Sunday, Easwaran slammed a 66-ball 130 against Punjab, but in a losing cause as the latter won by a massive margin of 112 runs. Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh accounted for 205 runs to push Punjab's prospects.
Abhimanyu Easwaran's prolific profile
Notably, Abhimanyu Easwaran has played 109 first-class games while scoring 8136 runs and averaging at 47.85. Though he has been named in India's Test squad a few times, he hasn't earned his maiden cap yet.
Easwaran's domestic T20 outings were also prolific, with 1156 runs at an average of 41.28 while he struck at a decent 132.26. Currently, in SMAT 2025, Easwaran averages 90.00 while striking at 156.52. From his 3 matches, Abhimanyu piled up 180 runs, though his other two outings were not as memorable as the one against Punjab.
