In preparation for Pakistan's upcoming Test series in Australia, newly-appointed Test captain Shan Masood emphasized the significant role Babar Azam plays in the team's leadership group.

Despite stepping down as captain after the disappointing World Cup 2023 campaign, Babar Azam remains a vital asset. Shan Masood, who now leads the Test side, expressed his strong bond with Babar, both on and off the field, citing their extensive history of playing together in domestic and national cricket.

Masood highlighted Babar Azam's immeasurable insights and batting prowess, considering him a valuable member of the leadership group. With Pakistan aiming to break a Test victory drought in Australia since 1995, Masood stressed the importance of experienced players like Babar, Mohammad Rizwan, and Sarfaraz Ahmed in navigating the challenging conditions.

Here's what he said:

"I have a really good relationship with Babar Azam, on and off the field. We have a long working history as we have played together for a very long time. We have batted together in both in domestic and national level cricket. Babar is a valuable part of the team's leadership group and his insight to the team is immeasurable, as is his batting.

Sarfraz Ahmed has been one the most successful captains and wicket-keepers of Pakistan. His presence in the team is very important as he has pioneered the change of style in Pakistan's batting. Whether it be Sarfaraz, Rizwan or Babar, their expertise will help Pakistan in Australia, which is a positive thing for us as we will be needing their experience on the challenging tour," he added.

Acknowledging Sarfaraz Ahmed's successful captaincy and role in transforming Pakistan's batting style, Masood expressed confidence in the collective experience of players like Sarfaraz, Rizwan, and Babar, emphasizing their positive impact on the team during the challenging Australian tour.

Pakistan's campaign kicks off with a tour game against Prime Minister's XI in Canberra on December 6, fueling renewed hopes for Test success.
