In a recent interview, West Indies cricket icon and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Hall of Famer, Chris Gayle, has voiced his support for Virat Kohli, as the cricketing world awaits the start of IPL 2024.

With Kohli set to return to the pitch, Gayle’s words reinforce the belief in Kohli's dominance across all formats of cricket. At 35, Virat Kohli remains a centerpiece for discussions, especially with his exceptional cricketing journey and physical fitness that could see him playing at the top level for years to come.

Gayle, who shared the RCB dressing room with Kohli from 2011 to 2017, remarked on Kohli's unmatched fitness and ability.

“Very unique, the one and only Virat Kohli is still going and still going very strong. Still got a lot of years left in him to play all formats. We'll see what calls he makes for himself and for Indian cricket as well,” Gayle was quoted in his interview with Cricbuzz.

This endorsement comes at a time when workload management in cricket has sparked widespread debate.Further embellishing his praise, Gayle positioned Kohli alongside cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as the most complete cricketer, acknowledging their monumental achievement of over 50 ODI centuries.

“Sachin and Virat, the only two guys with over 50 ODI centuries... And to be put in the same category as them is special,” Gayle expressed, also giving a nod to his own illustrious career across formats.

As the IPL 2024 season is about to kick off, all eyes will be on Kohli, who is the leading run-scorer in IPL history with 7263 runs from 237 matches. Speculations about his batting position are rife, considering his crucial role in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Kohli’s recent limited appearance in T20Is, playing just two matches since the T20 World Cup semi-final in 2022, has not dented his legendary status, nor has it lessened the anticipation of fans and fellow cricketers alike for what he brings to the field.

As RCB gears up to face Chennai Super Kings in their first match of the season on March 22 in Chepauk, supporters are eager to see Kohli in action, demonstrating why he’s considered one of the game's greats.
