'He Didn't Do That...': Mehidy Hasan Defends Mushfiqur In 'Handling The Ball' Incident

In a moment of brain-fade, Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim during the ongoing second Test at Dhaka against New Zealand, was given out while 'handling the ball', after the batter touched the ball with his hands as it back-spun towards his stumps on Day 1 of the encounter.

Interestingly, Rahim did the same earlier in the match as well but failed to gather the ball, however, the second time did not prove that fortunate, getting adjured for 'obstructing the field'.

All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz following the end of the play, defended the veteran Bangladesh player and stated that the action was not intentional.

As quoted by Sportskeeda, Hasan further put the blame down on 'luck', while citing the example of Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews, who dismissed 'timed-out' in a World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh in Delhi.

Here's what Hasan said

"Look this one was not intentional, it just happened with the flow. Nobody wants to get out knowingly. There are lot of things going around at the back of the mind during different situations in a game. In the World Cup, we got a timed-out dismissal against a Sri Lankan batter in our favour but today what happened with Mushfiq bhai, it all happened in a flow.

When I am batting after playing a shot and when the ball is coming near the stumps, have to make quick decisions about what you can do and what you can't. Certainly, he didn't do that intentionally."

Meanwhile, courtesy of Hasan, and Taikul Islam, Bangladesh are in a comfortable position in the match, having claimed five New Zealand wickets for 55 in response to the hosts' 172 in the first innings.  The start of Day 2 has been delayed due to rain.
