Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has raised his voice to support Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 before her final bout.

India were assured of a medal other than bronze, which is when the news of Phogat getting disqualified over being overweight broke out. Several renowned figures raised their voices in unison for her support and demanded a silver as she had reached the finals fair and square.

As a result, the IOC filed a case in the CAS and the verdict will arrive before August 14. Meanwhile, Ganguly has also demanded a silver.

“I don’t know the exact rule, but I’m sure that when she reached the finals, she must have qualified properly. So when you go to the finals, it’s either a Gold or Silver medal. Whether she was disqualified wrongfully or not, I don’t know, but she deserves the Silver medal at least,” he said in an event as per PTI Videos.

When To Expect Vinesh's Verdict?

“The ad hoc division of CAS has extended the time for the Sole Arbitrator Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee matter to give a decision till 6.00 pm (9.30 PM IST) on August 13 (Tuesday),” the communication stated.

Before Ganguly, his former India teammate and legend Sachin Tendulkar too had raised his voice in support for Phogat.
