Following his sensational century in South Africa's win, opener Quinton de Kock emphasised the significance of carefully assessing the conditions and executing their game plan effectively on the challenging Lucknow wicket. De Kock continued his outstanding form in the 2023 ODI World Cup by notching up another century against Australia at Lucknow's Ekana Cricket Stadium.

He reached his 19th ODI hundred in 90 balls while none of the opposition players reached a half-century on the challenging wicket.

"It was a great win for the boys. To be honest, we didn't know how the pitch would play. We assessed the conditions beautifully and then applied ourselves well with the bat. The guys who spent time on the wicket understood the conditions and used their scoring options effectively," Quinton de Kock said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

De Kock emphasized that South Africa's first innings score of 311 was above par, especially on the Lucknow wicket. Drawing from his experience with the Lucknow IPL team, he explained that batting second can be challenging. The wicket tends to change as the match progresses.

"311 was an above par score, I have played here for the Lucknow team (in the IPL), it becomes harder to bat second. The wicket does change a bit. It was sweaty and humid, the bowlers were on top of their game, no real loose balls and they picked early wickets,"  added de Kock.

While acknowledging the team's strong start in the tournament, de Kock emphasized the long and competitive nature of the World Cup. He concluded by highlighting their intention to take the tournament one match at a time.

"I think we are keen to prove ourselves, we played well, but it's just 2 games, the World Cup is a long tournament and games come quickly around, we will take it on a match-by-match basis,"  concluded de Kock.

The Proteas defended their total of 311 effectively, with Kagiso Rabada leading the bowling charge as they bowled out Australia for 177. South Africa maintained their unbeaten streak in the tournament, appearing as a formidable unit.
