The buzz around Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's selection in the Indian squad for the Australia series has taken the internet by storm. The fans and cricket pundits have lots of speculations regarding the legendary duo's future in the Indian team.

Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers jumped to the occasion and gave a piece of advice to the Kohli-Rohit duo ahead of the upcoming Australia series. While fans are hopeful of seeing the pair in the World Cup 2027, there are several factors that the selectors will need to consider before forming the squad.

AB de Villiers wants Kohli-Rohit to score runs in Australia

To be a part of the Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2027, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will have to score runs in the upcoming series. Even AB de Villiers believes that since the competition level is too high in the team now, 'scoring runs' is the only solution for the duo to fixate their place in the World Cup squad.

"I think the reason they (Rohit and Kohli) are hanging on is to play another World Cup for Team India. Whether it's going to happen, I don't know. It will take a lot from them to be there in 2027," said De Villiers on his YouTube channel.

"There's lots of cricket to be played and form to be kept. They've got to score runs and that should be the message from the selectors. The kind of competition Team India has these days and the quality, these two know they have to go out and score runs. It would be a great asset for Team India in the World Cup to have them there. But the priority is to score runs," he added.

I think this was the right move: AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers supported the BCCI's decision to change the captain in ODI cricket, as Shubman Gill is young and has the opportunity to lead the team in the upcoming World Cup.

"I think this was the right move, to still have Rohit and Virat. Shubman Gill will learn from two of the most experienced Indian players of all time, high quality, legendary players. It will be fantastic for Shubman to have them around," said AB de Villiers.

Moreover, while Kohli and Rohit are present, Gill can get the learnings and support from them during the ODI series. This will also help him grow as a captain.
