With the latest developments, the Indian cricket team departed from Mumbai Airport on Friday, June 6, 2025, embarking on the crucial tour of England for a five-match Test series scheduled between June and August.

This series marks a new chapter for Indian cricket, being the first bilateral Test series after the recent retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The team is led by newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill, signalling a transition phase as India looks to build a fresh core for the future.

Gambhir, Gill Leave With The Team For England

Accompanying the squad is head coach Gautam Gambhir, who took charge at a pivotal moment in Indian cricket. Gambhir’s experience as a former opener and a World Cup winner is expected to provide valuable guidance to the young team as they face challenging English conditions. Notably, many Indian players had already arrived in England earlier to participate in warm-up matches representing India A against the England Lions. The remaining squad members, including key players like Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja will be joining the group in the UK on Friday.

Meanwhile, India A continue their unofficial Test series against England Lions, with the second match underway at the County Ground, Northampton.

England Ready With Revamped Arsenal

England, coming off a 4-1 series defeat in India, has announced a revamped squad for the opening Test at Headingley. Moreover, the fresh faces and new leadership on both sides promise an intriguing contest as the cricketing giants renew their rivalry in the World Test Championship cycle.

India’s tour of England 2025 is not just a series but a defining moment for the team’s next generation, with Shubman Gill at the helm and Gautam Gambhir’s mentorship aiming to steer India toward continued success on foreign soil.
