Gambhir Continues Guiding KKR? DJ Bravo Admits Seeking Help From Ex-Mentor

Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) newly appointed mentor, Dwayne Bravo, revealed he reached out to former mentor Gautam Gambhir for advice as he steps into the role ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. 

Bravo, who replaced Gambhir after the latter took charge as head coach of the Indian cricket team, emphasized the importance of building on KKR’s recent success under Gambhir’s guidance.

DJ Bravo Admits Seeking Help From Gambhir

Gambhir’s tenure with KKR ended on a historic note, as he mentored the franchise to its third IPL title in 2024, breaking a decade-long drought under captain Shreyas Iyer. Bravo, tasked with continuing this legacy, acknowledged Gambhir’s impact while outlining his own approach.

“Unfortunately, we lost some players. But I think GG had his style, I have my style. We're both successful in our own ways. Definitely, I messaged him a few times and stuff. But again, I will be leaning a lot on these guys because they had a successful formula. And it's important that we follow that formula. I think it's going to be disrespectful of me not to try and find out some of the good things he did last season. But also, the core of the team is here,” Bravo told PTI.

Rahane Ready To Lead KKR

KKR will enter IPL 2025 with a revamped leadership group. Shreyas Iyer, who led the team to the 2024 title, was acquired by Punjab Kings for a record INR 26.5 crore at the auction. The franchise has appointed seasoned campaigner Ajinkya Rahane as captain, with all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer named vice-captain.

Rahane, who previously played for KKR, brings a wealth of experience, having captained India across formats and led Rajasthan Royals in two IPL seasons. 

KKR Prep Underway

KKR has already begun training for the season along with rituals like  'stump-pujas', aiming to replicate their 2024 triumph. Their campaign kicks off on March 22 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. 

Meanwhile, Bravo will try to balance continuity with fresh strategies. With Gambhir’s blueprint as a foundation and Bravo’s dynamic mentorship, KKR fans will hope the franchise’s winning formula remains intact this season as well.
