Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star & Hall of Famer,  AB de Villiers, offered valuable insights into the team's performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), emphasizing the importance of Virat Kohli's role.

The recent defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Bengaluru saw RCB's top-six batters struggle, failing to surpass the 30-run mark. Kohli, in particular, couldn't make a significant impact, managing only 22 runs in the chase of 182 runs set by LSG.

Reflecting on RCB's loss against LSG, de Villiers highlighted the need for Kohli to anchor the innings, stating, "We need him to get through the first six (overs), that's ultimately how I want to see him play."

He stressed the significance of Kohli's presence in the middle overs to ensure RCB can "fire from all cylinders."

With RCB currently ninth on the table, de Villiers acknowledged the team's middling start and the urgency for victories.

Looking ahead to their upcoming matches against Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, de Villiers expressed hope for a turnaround on the road.

He remarked, "They will be hitting the road and hopefully, they find good fortune away from home before they come back to the Chinnaswamy."

At 35 years old, Kohli shoulders a significant responsibility as RCB's stalwart batter. As they prepare to face Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 6 in Jaipur, Kohli's performance will be crucial in RCB's quest for redemption.

Meanwhile, RR sitting at the top of the table with three consecutive wins, poses a formidable challenge for RCB's resurgence.
