In a recent interaction with Star Sports, Indian stalwart Virat Kohli opened up about his unforgettable innings against Pakistan during the T20 World Cup 2022. Kohli's magnificent 82 not out was a vitalmoment in the high-stakes match, played in the electrifying atmosphere of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, in front of a staggering 90,000 spectators.

The match, a part of a long-standing rivalry between India and Pakistan, was more than just a game. Kohli, at the centre of this drama, played what many have described as an innings of a lifetime, turning what seemed like an imminent defeat into an astounding victory.

Recently, Kohli candidly shared his inner thoughts during the match, recounting how the mounting pressure had numbed his mind. Facing a seemingly insurmountable challenge, he realized there was no room for further thought, only action. He described a key moment when he sensed the opposition's momentum fluctuating during an on-field argument, identifying it as the turning point in the game.

“It couldn’t be worse than this. I have put myself and the team in that situation where it's like, how did we get here? The pressure goes so high that your brain gets numb, but there comes a time when you can't afford to think anything because you know this is it. I always observe these things keenly when the opponent argues on the field. This is the moment we had to press, and we could feel the momentum shifting slightly,” said Kohli.

Kohli further described a moment of intense focus during the match, where he felt as if nothing else in the world mattered. He shared how he motivated himself, constantly urging himself to hit two sixes off Haris Rauf. Reflecting on the perfection of the moment, he expressed that even in his dreams, he couldn't have imagined it more perfectly.

"Nothing else for me in the world existed in that moment. “Come on cheeks, come on cheeks, you have to hit two sixes, I kept telling myself". Even if I dreamt about something like this, I couldn’t have made it so perfect,” added the 35-year-old.

It is worth mentioning that the context of his knock was nothing short of dramatic. India's pursuit of victory was marred by early setbacks, losing crucial wickets and being reduced to a dismal 31 for 4 in the initial overs. However, Kohli's presence at the crease turned the tide. His batting was not just about scoring runs but demonstrating fight and defiance against a formidable Pakistani bowling attack.

The climax of his innings was straight out of a cricketing fairy tale. Needing 28 runs from the last 8 balls, Kohli found the boundary with two magnificent sixes, cutting through the tension and disbelief of the spectators.

The final over was a rollercoaster, with Dinesh Karthik and Ravichandran Ashwin playing crucial roles, and Kohli himself narrowly escaping dismissal on a free-hit. Ashwin's calm demeanour in the last moments of the game, judiciously leaving a wide ball and then securing the winning run, was the final stroke in this epic win.
