'Don't Play Him..', Ex-MI Player Names IPL Superstar as Sanju Samson's Replacement in Ireland T20Is

Indian keeper-batter Sanju Samson had a torrid time in the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean. Despite being given opportunities consistently, Samson managed only 32 runs across three outings at a horrendous average of 10.67. Considering his inconsistency and poor form, fans and experts have called for the Kerala batter's exclusion from India's playing XI for the upcoming series against Ireland.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar has named IPL sensation Rinku Singh as Samson's replacement in the Indian middle order.

‘Bat Samson at no 3, else don’t play him’- Abhishek Nayar

Speaking on Jio Cinema, Nayar, who represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL, urged the Indian management to consider Samson a top-order option and not include him in the playing XI as a middle-order batter.

"I believe if you want to utilise Sanju Samson more, bat him at No. 3 because that is his number. He is used to that and he is successful there, or else don't play him," Nayar said as quoted by News18.

Elaborating on the matter, the ex-Mumbai all-rounder named KKR mainstay Rinku Singh as Samson's ideal replacement for the finisher's role.

"If you are going to play him at No. 5 or No. 6, play Rinku Singh instead. If you play Samson in the top three, you will get more out of him because he plays shots in the powerplay and then plays the spinners. So I believe not the right place but he will get opportunities," the southpaw added.

India's Ireland tour, comprising three T20Is, begins on August 18, Friday, with the first game at The Village in Malahide, Dublin.
