'Dil Dil Pakistan Wasn't…,' Vaughan Mocks Pakistan After Defeat To Afghanistan

Michael Vaughan has brutally roasted Pakistan team management for the second time this week after the ‘Men in Green’ slumped to a shock defeat against Afghanistan at the 2023 World Cup. The former England captain took to X (formerly Twitter) and humorously attributed Pakistan's humiliating loss to their team anthem ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ not being played across the Chepauk stadium.

After Pakistan’s defeat to India earlier in the tournament, team director Mickey Arthur had slammed World Cup 2023 authorities for not playing ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ at the Narendra Modi Stadium and claimed that the match seemed like a BCCI event instead of an ICC event.

Michael Vaughan roasts Pakistan yet again

Following Mickey Arthur’s absurd complain at the post-match press conference after defeat to India, Michael Vaughan playfully implied that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s strategic move was to ensure the DJ refrained from playing ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ song. While speaking at the ‘Club Prairie Fire’ podcast alongside Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist, Vaughan quipped:

“Without doubt, Rohit Sharma’s best move, and the move that won them the game, and the Pakistan coach alluded to it afterwards, is Rohit obviously said to the DJ- Just do not play ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’”.

As it turned out, Pakistan also ended up losing its subsequent two fixtures, first to Australia in Bengaluru and then to Afghanistan in Chennai. After the latter of those two defeats, Vaughan once again took to the microblogging site and jokingly claimed that the Pakistani team anthem was not played in Chennai during match time.

He wrote: “I presume ‘Dil Dil’ Pakistan wasn’t played in Chennai today.”

Pakistan started off their World Cup 2023 campaign with confident wins against Netherlands and Sri Lanka upfront in Hyderabad. However, the subsequent three defeats against India, Australia and Afghanistan have turned their fortunes for the worst, as they are now required to win each of their remaining World Cup 2023 fixtures.

Pakistan team, under Babar Azam, will now face a rampaging South African unit at the same Chennai-based venue on October 27.
