In a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash that saw Rajasthan Royals (RR) facing off against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, a controversial dismissal of Sanju Samson has sparked widespread discussion.

Rajasthan Royals, under the leadership of Sanju Samson, fell short by 20 runs chasing a target of 222, with Samson's dismissal at 86 proving pivotal.

During the 16th over, Samson attempted to clear the boundary but was caught by Shai Hope, who managed an impressive catch near the ropes.

The controversy arose over whether Hope's foot had touched the boundary line, which would have turned the decision in favour of a six instead of an out. Despite the questionable footage, the third umpire ruled Samson out.

"It depends on replays and angles. Sometimes, you think the foot has touched. It was a difficult one for the third umpire to judge; the game was at a crucial stage, but it happened. We have different perspectives, but at the end of the day, you have to stand by the decision the third umpire has made, even if we have a different opinion on it. Of course, we will share it with the umpires, but I thought, irrespective of that, we should've seen the game at home," Sangakkara explained.

Following the dismissal, RR’s innings faltered, sliding from 162 for 3 to 201 for 8. Despite the setback, Sangakkara praised the Delhi team's late-game bowling and highlighted the need for his team to finish games strongly, irrespective of umpiring decisions.

Rajasthan Royals are set to face Chennai Super Kings in their next match on Sunday, May 12th, at the Chepauk Stadium. With 8 wins in 11 games, RR holds the second spot on the points table, looking to secure their position further as the tournament progresses.
