Since the India-Pakistan handshake saga occurred after the clash, the gesture by the Indian side has divided the world. As some of them strongly criticized the act of the Men in Blue, some others also extended support to them.
Amidst those, a fake comment of Ricky Ponting about Team India was attributed on social media. The Aussie legend quickly addressed the rumors with a clarification on his official account.
Ponting’s Fake Comment Takes On Social Media Buzz
As the India-Pakistan rivalry always excites fans, the last encounter between these two arch-rivals in the Asia Cup 2025 crossed every height. After Men in Blue secured a one-sided, dominating victory over Pakistan, their no-handshake gesture grabbed the limelight. Amidst this controversy, the cricket world split in two.
Along with some social media quotes, several false quotes of cricket legends have already misguided fans. One such claim involved former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, with some portals wrongly reporting that he made a derogatory remark about India on Sky Sports.
“This match will be remembered forever with India as the big loser. The way the Pakistani team wanted to shake hands at the end has immortalised them as champions of the gentleman’s game with India as the perpetual loser,” said the alleged comment.
Ponting Strikes Back With Strong Response
As the alleged comment was all over social media, Ricky Ponting fired back with a sharp reply. Taking to his social media, he clarified that he never made any such remarks.
“I am aware of certain comments being attributed to me on social media. Please know that I categorically did not make those statements and indeed have made no public comment about the Asia Cup at all,” Ponting said.
In the high-voltage clash, India’s bowlers tore through Pakistan’s batting lineup. Chasing a modest 128, India got off to a blazing start. Despite Pakistan’s efforts to fight back, the Indian batters dominated and chased down the target in just 16 overs, sealing a commanding seven-wicket victory.
