Ahead of the three-Test tour of Australia, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed former captain Mohammed Hafeez and former pacer Wahab Riaz as Team Director and Chief Selector, respectively.

Both Hafeez and Riaz talked about having a positive intent in Australia and backed their players to deliver the good against the hosts, which unfortunately did not happen.

The Shan Masood-led Pakistan side suffered yet another series of whitewash, handing Australia a comfortable 0-3 win in the Benaud-Qadir Trophy 2023-24, with the nation's wait for their first Test victory since 1995 still a distant dream.

Former Pakistan Shoaib Malik, who has played with both Hafeez and Riaz, has lent his support to the new appointees, stating how the duo is focusing on 'A' tours.

Taking to social media platform 'X', Malik, who wishes to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 for Pakistan, lauded Hafeez and Riaz.

“Dear (Mohammad) Hafeez and Wahab (Riaz) you are doing a great job, you guys have been discussing a lot about our A Team tours, and I believe our A team is ready when it comes down to ODI & Test cricket. Now let's make a national team out of these boys."

After the series defeat Down Under, Hafeez revealed details about a cricket exchange program between PCB and Cricket Australia, which will witness several Pakistan teams - Women's, Under-19, and Shaheen's - tour Australia in the coming years.

Meanwhile, Pakistan have landed in New Zealand today for the upcoming five-T20I series commencing January 12.
