'Couldn't Bet Against RCB': Brett Lee Backs Faf du Plessis' Men To Win Glory In IPL 2024

With Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifting the Women's Premier League (WPL) title, the pressure around Faf Du Plessis-captained men's side has increased fourfold.

Since 2008, RCB have not managed to clinch their maiden IPL title, while the women's side have already claimed their first-ever WPL title in their second appearance. Former RCB legend AB de Villiers stated that the WPL 2024 win has set the stage for Plessis and Co. to lift the IPL as well.

Reacting to de Villiers' belief, former Australian pacer Brett Lee also echoed similar sentiments, that RCB could pull off a double trophy win this season.

As quoted by Hindustan Times, Lee stated that with RCB changing their name and jersey colour, the superstition around cricket in India could factor in, and see the Bengaluru-based franchise lift its maiden IPL trophy.

' I would not bet against them' - Brett Lee

"I was going through all the teams, the 10 franchises and not because he is sitting next to me, I actually think RCB have a very good chance this year. I would not bet against them. They've had the best side for a number of years, maybe different ways. Over here in India, there are a lot of superstitions. They have changed the name, colour of the clothing. This could be the year," Brett Lee.

Since IPL's inception, RCB have finished as runner-ups thrice (2009, 2011, and 2016), missing out on the coveted trophy narrowly. RCB will take on arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 22 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

RCB will once again revolve around Virat Kohli, Du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Dinesh Karthik, with new recruits Will Jacks and Cameron Green playing the role of aggressors.

The bowling unit will be marshaled by Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Karn Sharma, who this season will have Tom Curran, Alzarri Joseph, and Lockie Ferguson for support.
