'Chahal's One I Will Be Frustrated Until I Finish...' - Hesson On RCB's Biggest Blunder In IPL

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) coach, Mike Hesson, has expressed his regret over the decision to release Yuzvendra Chahal for auction and his inability to secure Chahal's return ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Chahal's departure is considered one of the biggest blunders in IPL franchise history.

The legendary spinner achieved a remarkable milestone on Monday evening during the Rajasthan Royals' (RR) match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024.

By dismissing Nabi, Chahal became the first player in IPL history to reach the milestone of 200 wickets.

Most of Chahal's wickets came during his time at RCB, under Virat Kohli's captaincy. However, in the 2021 mega auction, RCB had to let go of Chahal and opted to acquire Sri Lankan spinner Hasaranga. But, Hasaranga later parted ways with the team.

"(Yuzi) Chahal is one I will be frustrated with until I finish my career, probably beyond, he is an outstanding bowler, when every cycle comes to an end, you have to decide whom to retain, if you retain only 3 players you get extra 4 crores which potentially gives us the chance to get both Harshal (Patel) & Yuzi - but when the order of the auction came, Yuzi was at (number) 65, so after Yuzi, we were not interested in any spinner and Hasaranga was our another option so once we got him, we couldn't go for Yuzi" - Hesson told JioCinema.

Hesson had hoped to secure Chahal during the auctions. However, with Chahal positioned 65th in the draft and ten teams bidding for players, it was inevitable that a player of Chahal's caliber would attract significant demand and interest.

Hesson's decision to let Chahal enter the auction was a mistake if he truly desired to retain him in the team.
