'Bring Your A-Game': Eoin Morgan Critiques Pakistan After Crushing Defeat to India

In a match that buzzed with anticipation, the Indian team delivered a magnificent performance, besting Pakistan decisively at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.

Morgan reflects on Pakistan's collapse against dominant India

Despite Pakistan’s initial momentum when they were in a strong position at 155/2, they faced a staggering collapse and were restricted to a modest 191 runs. India responded with flair, achieving the target in just 30.3 overs, with 7 wickets to spare.

Former England captain, Eoin Morgan, offered his analysis on the contest while speaking to Sky Sports, stressing the importance of consistency in such elite tournaments. Drawing an analogy to boxing, he stated that while occasional lapses might be overlooked, a series of misjudgments can cost teams dearly.

"When you want to beat the best sides in the world are in this tournament. You have to bring your A-game. So I got a boxing match. You can't have a bad round. You can have a bad blow here and there. But it can't be consecutive with lots of wickets or clusters of wickets,” said Morgan while discussing the game alongside Dinesh Karthik.

The southpaw recalled a similar narrative in the New Zealand versus England tournament opener, where the latter showed potential but failed to establish substantial partnerships, thus missing a crucial win. Morgan believed that Pakistan's performance against India mirrored this pattern.

"And we did see it in the first game here in New Zealand against England, where England was starting to get away and throwing the odd punch here and there but couldn't quite land up blow, which is a substantial partnership that would take them up to a winning par score. I think Pakistan made those mistakes today," added the World Cup winning captain.

Pakistan entered the clash with confidence, riding high on their stunning chase against Sri Lanka, a World Cup record. The outset of the game bore promise for Pakistan, but they gradually lost their footing, especially against India's skilled bowling on the Ahmedabad turf.
