'Our Preparations Were Wrong' : Mohd. Amir Criticizes Pakistan After Loss to India

Following Pakistan's crushing seven-wicket defeat to India in the World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, former pacer Mohammad Amir expressed his disappointment with the team's selection policies.

Amir criticizes Pakistan's selection choices for World Cup 2023

Amir questioned the team management's decision to bring in Hasan Ali as a replacement for the injured Naseem Shah, despite Ali not originally being in the World Cup plans.

Speaking on Geo Sports, Amir stated how Hasan Ali's inclusion seemed abrupt, considering he had been recovering from an injury and wasn’t actively playing.

“Since we are talking about Pakistan team, let me tell you where the problem is. Our preparations were wrong. Hasan Ali came into the World Cup after Naseem Shah got injured. Hasan Ali was not even in their plans. He was injured and not even playing,” said Amir.

Amir further voiced his concerns over the sidelining of Mohammad Wasim Jr., who had been part of the team's preparations for three years. Wasim Jr. played only one game and has since been benched. The southpaw expressed his confusion over the choice to have a freshly inducted player bowl crucial overs, while sidelining a regular member.

“The one we were carrying for three years, Mohammad Wasim Jr, plays one match and sits out for the next two. He is still with the team, but is on the bench. And the one who came in as a replacement is bowling for Pakistan. You didn’t prepare someone to bowl in the new ball and who has come from outside is playing,” added the former cricketer.

As of now, Pakistan stands fourth in the World Cup points table. They will lock horns with Australia on October 20 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
