Mohammed Shami’s omission from Team India remains a mystery as the veteran seamer was once again neglected by the selectors for the Test series against South Africa at home. He last played for India during the Champions Trophy, and since then, the selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, has constantly ignored Shami, despite him performing in domestic cricket.

Shami has gone on to state that there has been no communication regarding the India selection with the selectors; however, a fresh report reveals that Shami is probably hiding something and the entire truth has not been disclosed.

BCCI official hits back at Shami's "no communication'' comment

As per the BCCI official, the management has been in regular touch with Shami, and they wanted him for the England tour; however, Shami responded by stating that he still needs to build his workload and shouldn’t be considered for the away tour selection.

“There have been multiple times that national selectors and support staff from the BCCI Centre of Excellence have called to check on Shami. The selection committee was desperate to get his services in England as Jasprit Bumrah could not have played more than three Tests. Who wouldn’t want a bowler of his calibre in English conditions?" a senior board official told PTI.

“So the narrative that there was no communication with Shami isn’t an absolute truth. The sports science team also has his medical reports and whether his body will be able to take the rigours of international cricket," the official added.

Shami neglected despite stellar Ranji performance

Shami is working hard on his fitness by playing in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal, and in the first three matches, the pacer delivered the goods. He has bowled 93 overs across three games and has proved his fitness. Moreover, the pacer has also bagged 15 wickets, showcasing his ability, even at the twilight of his career.

He delivered a match-winning fifer against Gujarat to seal Bengal’s win, but despite performing well, the Bengal seamer was snubbed from India’s Test squad for the all-important South Africa matches.
