Fresh from their win over India in the World Test Championship final 2023, Australia will be taking on England in the highly-anticipated Ashes which begins on Friday, June 16. Ex-cricketers from both sides have weighed in with their predictions for the final scoreline at the end of the series.

Former Players Predict Their Ashes Scoreline

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has gone bold by backing Australia to sweep England 5-0. Speaking to the BBC, McGrath said that he had been really impressed by the way England had been playing, but this Australian side goes into the contest with a great bowling attack and quality batters.

He also predicted that it would be an incredible contest and highlighted the final Test as massively important, saying that he could see every Test going down to the wire but Australia would just about win every game, ending with his 5-0 prediction.

England, on the other hand, come into the series on the back of a thumping Test win over Ireland at Lord's. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan backed England to surprise Australia in this series, citing Australia's poor Ashes record in England.

He said that Australia hadn't won in the UK since 2001, adding that the last time they were in England was in 2019, when they had a very similar team to what they have now but could only manage a 2-2 draw. As such, Vaughan backed a much-improved England to come out on top against Australia.

Another former England skipper, Sir Alastair Cook, has also backed England to win. Cook said that England's bowlers would need to stay fit for the side to win and also declared that he was excited to see how Australia take on 'Bazball,' because there were many unanswered questions in that regard. He also referred to Stuart Broad's prediction of a 3-2 England win when giving his thoughts.
