Former Australian captain, Aaron Finch, has outlined a strategic approach to tackle Cheteshwar Pujara in the highly anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and India at The Oval in London, starting on Wednesday, June 7.

Pujara, known for his ability to stand tall at the crease like a wall, is expected to play a pivotal role in India's batting line-up, making his early dismissal crucial for the Australian bowlers, led by Pat Cummins.

During a discussion on Star Sports’ show 'Game Plan,' Finch delved into Australia's previous tour of India in 2018-19, recounting the challenges they encountered against Pujara, who valiantly frustrated the Aussies by occupying the crease for extended periods on the mentioned tour.

"Remember back to 2018, he batted for so long. We had an ODI series after it and the guys said if Pujara walks out to bat at No. 3 in this ODI series, we are going home, because he just ground everyone down," said Finch.

Drawing from that experience, Finch lauded Pujara and emphasized the significance of launching an early attack on him to disrupt his rhythm and dismiss him swiftly. He emphasized the need to challenge Pujara's front-foot defense during the crucial initial phase of his innings, recognizing that even the most resilient batter are vulnerable during their first ten deliveries.

"He is a fantastic player. You have to attack him early. I think you have to challenge his front-foot defense in his first 10 balls. The first 10 is when everybody is at their most vulnerable, no different for him," added the erstwhile cricketer.

Pujara has consistently scored runs against the Aussies. The right-hander had accumulated a remarkable 521 runs at an astounding average of 74.42 during the 2018-19 tour. He had scored three centuries and a half-century across seven innings and faced a mind-boggling 1258 deliveries during the course of the series.
