England's star wicket-keeper batter, Jonny Bairstow, staged a remarkable return for the national team after being sidelined for several months, including the IPL 2023, due to his recovery.

Bairstow, following the footsteps of ‘Bazball’ played a scintillating innings, smashing an impressive 78 runs from 78 balls during England's first inning in the opening Test against Australia at Edgbaston.

Speaking at the post-match conference, the wicket-keeper batter expressed his delight at England's commitment to the fearless and aggressive Bazball approach.

Here’s what Bairstow said:

"Overall it's been a good day. The intent the guys showed, Zak's first shot of the day, in stark contrast to last time. The crowd's been in good form and we really enjoyed it. [First ball] I don't think that's a change over the last 12 months. If the ball's there to be hit, you hit it. The lads are out there with a smile on their faces, from the start of the day to the end, when Robbo slipped over."

With England reeling at 176 runs for the loss of five wickets in 38.4 overs, Bairstow took charge upon his arrival at the crease. He joined hands with the former England captain Joe Root as the duo orchestrated a brilliant partnership, accumulating 121 runs and restoring the hosts' momentum in the game.

Shedding light on his century partnership with Joe Root, here’s what Bairstow said:

“Five down you're thinking a couple here and we could be in trouble. Been lucky enough to bat with Rooty for too long, and we've had some special times in the middle. We just had a bit of craic out there. Great fun being back out there, just got my hands and feet going again. Going to take a bit of time after my long lay off, but when you're in you give it your best shot.”

Meanwhile, England made a bold declaration at 393/8 in their first innings. Bairstow, commenting on the same, emphasized that their bowlers need to put up patience and relentless approach on the Day 2 of the Test match, where Australia will resume the batting at 14/0.
