Are India the new chokers of world cricket? Venkatesh Prasad still thinks, No. The former India pacer denounced the tag of embarrassment being attached to Men in Blue amidst a disappointing ICC trophy drought for the past decade.

The tag has been given by the team's naysayers and critics and is being gradually accepted out of frustration by the team's passionate fanbase as India continues to falter at the last hurdle at major tournaments for over ten years now. Team India hasn't won an ICC title since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Led by Rohit Sharma, the Asian giants painstakingly lost the final of the recent ICC World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad against Australia despite enjoying an excellent winning juggernaut, clinching ten consecutive wins.

Prasad On India's 'Chokers' Tag

In cricketing realms, the tag of 'chokers' is historically associated with South Africa for being the dominant team in the league stage of all major ICC tournaments but losing the knock-outs after a rare failure.

With India showing a similar tendency over the past decade, the term 'chokers' is now being attached to the subcontinental rivals.

Prasad, however, brushed it aside and reminded the fans that India is the only Asian team to win a Test series in Australia, not just once but twice in 2018-19 and 2020-21.

"Chokers not, we have won 2 Test series against Australia in Australia, the last one in 2020-21 after 36 all out, I consider as one of India’s greatest especially with more than half first choice players missing," Prasad told a cricket fan during a question & answer session with his followers on Twitter.

The ex-cricketer agreed; however, the Indian team will have to look at issues acting as a barrier to achieving glory at the marquee competitions.

"But there is certainly something not right about not winning any major tournament in 11 years," he tweeted.
