In a recent interaction with media channel, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah addressed several pressing issues concerning the Indian Premier League (IPL).

One key topic was the future of the ‘impact player’ rule. Shah acknowledged both the advantages and disadvantages of this rule, highlighting its potential to overshadow the role of all-rounders while providing a platform for Indian players to shine.

He emphasized the need to balance the interests of all stakeholders, including broadcasters and franchise owners.

Jay Shah assured that a definitive decision regarding the impact player rule and player retentions for the IPL will be made soon.

"We had a long chat about this in the recent meeting with the franchise owners. We had a long chat among our domestic teams also. There are positives and negatives to it. The negative is that it affects the all-rounders and the positive side is that it gives an opportunity to an extra Indian player. We should think about the broadcasters also. For me as an administrator, the game is important. Let's see what feedback we're getting," Jay Shah stated.

Regarding the IPL 2025 mega auction, Shah noted the varied opinions among franchises. Teams with stable rosters prefer to avoid a mega auction, whereas those with less settled teams advocate for it.

Shah also addressed speculation about the hosting of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024. He revealed that India might not host the tournament if there are changes due to political conflicts in Bangladesh.
