Australian cricket fans are in for a rollercoaster ride as the Women’s Big Bash League returns with another pulse-pounding season. The Sunday turned out to be exciting as the Melbourne derby entertained fans with its unreal thrills.

As the Renegades were chasing down the total, Tess Flintoff’s ruthless batting secured the victory. After the thrilling triumph, the young all-rounder opened up about the thrill of snatching victory from her former team.

Flintoff talks about seizing victory

Fans were delighted on Sunday as the Melbourne Stars Women faced Melbourne Renegades Women in the high-voltage derby, and the match turned out to be a thrilling one. Chasing the target, the Renegades army stumbled in the middle, but the young all-rounder, Tess Flintoff, flipped the script. With a 9-ball 17, she secured the victory.

Adding another layer to the drama, Tess Flintoff, who swapped the Stars for the Renegades last December, ended up taking down her former team. While reflecting on this, she found it ‘pretty satisfying’.

“It's pretty satisfying to be out there with Nico (Faltum) as well. It got a bit tight at the end, but just really happy to get the win,” Flintoff said.

Extra nerves as Flintoff takes on her old team

Chasing the 142-run target, the Renegades lost some quick wickets, and then Tess arrived to bat. When they needed 12 runs in 12 balls, Annabel Sutherland came to bowl, and Flintoff smashed her two boundaries and one massive six. After sealing the victory, she reflected on the moment and shared the key advice her coach had given to the side.

“The advice from (coach) Simon Helmot was you don't want to leave it too late, so we just wanted to keep playing our aggressive brand,” she said.

Every player walks onto the field with a winning mindset, but when that moment comes against a former team, the stakes feel even sharper. As Tess stepped in against her former side, a little nervousness was there.

“You always want to do well, especially against the old side, so there was definitely a little bit of nerves around,” she added.

After the thrilling four-wicket victory in the last match, the Melbourne Renegades Women got a huge boost. With three victories and one defeat in four matches, he is standing in second position on the points table. On November 20, they will face Hobart Hurricanes Women in their fifth clash of the season.
