'A Great Justification..,: Alyssa Healy On Mitchell Starc's Record-Breaking Price Tag

On Tuesday, Australia's Mitchell Starc created history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auctions, becoming the highest-paid player after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) purchased the player for a record INR 24.75 crore.

Interestingly, Starc broke the record of fellow Australian teammate Pat Cummins, who a few hours ago got sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 20.50 crore.

Post the auction, several fans, critics and former players have questioned Starc's colossal price tag.

KKR found themselves in stiff competition with other franchises also bidding for the two-time World Cup-winning bowler.

Starc's wife, Alyssa Healy, who is leading Australia's Test side in India, justified her husband's price on the eve of the first Test against hosts at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

As quoted by India Today, Healy stated that such a high-valued contract is the reward of Starc putting his nation first and all the hard work that has gone into making him achieve great success. 

Here's what Healy said

"Look, it is what it is. It is an amazing moment for Mitch (Starc). It is a great justification for the hard work he has put in and (for) probably some of the choices he has made over the last eight years to put his country first."

Starc has played in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and nearly turned up for KKR in 2018, when an injury forced the bowler out of the season.
