Gujarat Titans will meet Mumbai Indians [Source: IPLT20]
Today (May 30), Gujarat Titans (GT) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2025 Eliminator. The winner of this match will move on to play against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2, while the loser will be out of the tournament and finish in fourth place.
This is a crucial match, both teams need to win to stay alive in the tournament. GT had a strong run in the league stage, winning 9 out of 14 matches. However, losing their last two games meant they dropped to third place and missed out on Qualifier 1. MI, on the other hand, didn’t start off well but made a strong comeback and qualified for the playoffs with 8 wins in 14 games.
Both teams have been performing well, but GT will miss key players like Kagiso Rabada and Jos Buttler, who are away on national duty. MI will also be without players like Will Jacks, Riyan Rickleton, and Corbin Bosch. But what happens if the Eliminator match ends without a result due to weather?
What Happens If GT vs MI Is Abandoned?
Weather reports say there’s no rain expected during the match, with a 72% cloud cover, but if the weather turns bad and the match gets washed out, GT will advance to Qualifier 2. This is because they finished higher in the group-stage points table than MI.
It's important to note that there are no reserve days for the first three playoff games. However, if the match can’t happen on the scheduled date because of weather or other reasons, the final match can be moved to June 4.
If rain delays the match, the IPL allows an extra 2 hours (120 minutes) to complete the game.
So, if the match is washed out, Gujarat Titans will benefit and move forward, while Mumbai Indians will be knocked out and end their 2025 season.
