Watching a batter smash a big shot in cricket always evokes a great feeling among spectators and the legends. Power hitters garner immense fandom in cricket, owing to their ability to strike massive shots.

The art of hitting a six has become one of the most exhilarating aspects of cricket, especially with the rise of T20I cricket and other short-forms of the game, leading to the evolution of batting techniques.

In today's cricket landscape, six-hitters are highly sought after, particularly with white-ball cricket taking precedence. Although it may not be a common practice in Test cricket, it remains a crucial skill for scoring quick runs in white-ball formats.

There's always a level of risk associated with attempting to clear the boundary ropes. When a player, especially the team captain, takes on this challenge, it becomes an even bigger risk. However, some players relish the responsibility of leading the team and taking the risk of hitting sixes for their side.

From MS Dhoni to Rohit Sharma, there are several captains who hit the most sixes in international cricket. In his listicle we will take a closer look at the top 5 such captains.

Virat Kohli's presence is nearly ubiquitous in the records of batsmen across formats. Leading India from 2015 to 2021, Kohli was an inspirational captain. Despite falling short of clinching ICC titles, he orchestrated memorable bilateral series victories. His ascent as a batsman was nothing short of remarkable.

Kohli launched 138 sixes during his tenure as captain of the Indian cricket team. Moreover, he ranks among the captains with the highest run tallies, amassing 12,883 runs in 250 matches across formats, placing him sixth on the list.

Among his captaincy achievements, guiding New Zealand to the final of the 2015 World Cup stands as his pinnacle, despite falling short to eventual champions Australia. Despite their numerous attempts, New Zealand failed to progress beyond the semi-finals in subsequent World Cup campaigns.

One of Australia’s most illustrious captains and batsmen, Ricky Ponting, has established and surpassed numerous records throughout his career. In contrast to Ponting, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni began his career as a dynamic batsman. However, upon assuming leadership responsibilities, Dhoni modified his approach at the international level.

bWhile initially a successful top-order batsman, he strategically dropped down the batting order to become the finisher revered by fans today.

Throughout his nine-year captaincy stint with the Indian team, MS Dhoni struck 211 sixes in 330 matches. Dhoni maintained an impressive batting average of 46.89, accumulating 11,207 runs across 330 innings, including 11 centuries.

The current Indian captain has been on a rampage of six-hitting since assuming leadership. In the third Test in Rajkot, Rohit blasted 131 runs off 196 deliveries, including 14 fours and three sixes. With those towering sixes, Rohit surpassed MSD to claim the record for the most sixes in international cricket by an Indian captain.

Previously, Dhoni held the record with 211 sixes in 330 innings, while the Hitman achieved this feat in just 121 innings. He stands as the only active captain on the list and has the potential to surpass Eoin Morgan's record.

The Mumbai-based batter is also closing in on the milestone of 600 sixes in international cricket, poised to become the first player to achieve this feat.
