The Asia Cup is an intense battleground of cricket where Asian giants lock horns to prove their mettle and might. Since its inauguration in 1984, the tournament has witnessed numerous tales of triumph, heartbreak, and absolute cricketing brilliance. At the centre of many such tales stands Team India, an example of consistency and dominance over the decades.

India has consistently shown their dominance in the Asia Cup. With a stellar record of seven wins, including six ODI titles and a T20I trophy, they stand unmatched in the history of this high-octane tournament.

The Men in Blue are now gearing up for Asia Cup 2023 which is slated to be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, starting August 30. Rohit Sharma’s troops will be hungry going into the continental tournament and will look to add another trophy to their kitty.

Here’s a look at the Top 5 records held by India in Asia Cup history.

1. Most Titles in Asia Cup

From the tournament's inception to the present day, India's Asia Cup legacy is a tale of consistent brilliance. Starting with their inaugural victory in 1984, India's footprint on the trophy expanded with consecutive titles in 1988, 1990, and 1995. By 2010, they had asserted their dominance, claiming their fifth ODI trophy in Sri Lanka.

Venturing into the T20I domain of the Asia Cup in 2016, they conquered the maiden edition with sheer dominance. India’s last Asia Cup title was added in 2018, under Rohit's leadership, making it their sixth ODI title and consolidating their status as the best Asia Cup team.

Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, and Sachin Tendulkar, each with two Asia Cup tons, further add to India's batting brilliance. This elite list also features legends like Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, and Rohit, all of whom have notched a century each in Asia Cup.

3. Highest Total in an Asia Cup Match (T20I)

India's 212/2 against Afghanistan stands apart as the highest total in the tournament’s T20 format. This colossal score was sculpted, in significant part, by Virat Kohli's magnificent century.

Kohli's bat sang a tune that was missing for over a thousand days, as he brought up his first international century after a long hiatus. Complementing the batting masterclass, Bhuvneshwar Kumar spun a web around the Afghan batsmen, claiming five wickets for a mere four runs to guide Indian to a thumping win.

4. Highest Chase in an Asia Cup Match (ODI)

In a plethora of astounding Indian ODI performances, one chase in the Asia Cup stands tall. The 2012 face-off against arch-rivals Pakistan in Mirpur is etched in memory for India's remarkable run-chase. With Pakistan setting a massive target of 330, powered by Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed's centuries, the odds seemed against India.

However, a young Virat Kohli rose to the challenge, conjuring a breathtaking 183 (his highest ODI score). He, along with invaluable partnerships with stalwarts Tendulkar and Rohit, defied the odds, reaching the target with 13 balls to spare.

5. Most Wins in Asia Cup (T20)

India's command over the T20I format in the Asia Cup is pronounced. In 2016 & 2022, the team was sensational, resulting in eight wins out of ten matches. Their impeccable journey began in 2016, under MS Dhoni, where they emerged unbeaten in the inaugural T20I edition of the Asia Cup, winning all five matches.

2022 tested their mettle when they faced their first-ever T20I Asia Cup defeat against Pakistan and a loss against Sri Lanka. However, resilience remains India's trademark, and they displayed just that, bouncing back strongly in subsequent matches.
