A maximum of 122 slots were up for grabs on the second day of Indian Premier League 2025 auction in Jeddah. All the 10 franchises had a cumulative amount of INR 173.55 to execute these purchases.
As the mega auction comes to an end, a total of INR 171.2 were spent on 100 players on Day 2 as teams have finalized their squads for the 18th season of the biggest T20 league across the globe.
A stark but unsurprising trend to have come out of the second day was how franchises bid aggressively for bowlers than their batting counterparts. Interestingly, the Top Five most expensive buys were capped fast bowlers. While four of them were Indian, one of them was a South African also capable of playing the role of a finisher.
Most Expensive Players On IPL 2025 Auction Day 2
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (INR 10.75 crore)
Two years after playing an international match, veteran India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar initiated a bidding war between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. Registered at a base price of INR 2 crore, Bhuvneshwar was the only player to earn more than INR 10 crore on Monday.
Having played for Pune Warriors India and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past, Royal Challengers Bangalore will be Bhuvneshwar’s third IPL franchise. Having come out of nowhere to place the final bid, it put an end to the 34-year-old player’s 11-year stint with SRH. For the unversed, his salary has more than doubled as he used to make INR 4.2 crore annually at Hyderabad.
Deepak Chahar (INR 9.25 crore)
Playing for Chennai Super Kings since 2018, India pacer Deepak Chahar will turn up for the other five-time champion in Mumbai Indians 2025 onward. The development means that Chahar won’t share the dressing room with former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the first time since making his IPL debut in 2016.
Chahar, who hasn’t played for India in almost a year now, witnessed an intense bidding war between MI and Punjab Kings. Despite CSK also jumping on the bandwagon, Mumbai appeared to be hell-bent on buying Chahar. That said, it is worth noting that he has received a salary cut from his previous IPL salary of INR 14 crore per year.
Mukesh Kumar (INR 8 crore)
Super Kings and Kings’ fierce bidding battle for India pacer Mukesh Kumar didn’t benefit either of them as Delhi Capitals exercised their RTM card to buy the 31-year-old player for INR 8 crore.
Only one out of these four Indian bowlers to have represented India in the shortest format this year, the right-arm bowler received an INR 1 crore increment from his previous salary of INR 5.5 crore.
That being said, in a desperate attempt to snap him, Punjab increased the amount to INR 8 crore. With Mukesh being DC’s second-highest wicket-taker since his IPL debut in 2023, there was no way they were going to let him go for this price.
Akash Deep (INR 8 crore)
Right after Chahar, it was India pacer Akash Deep’s turn to mint money. In spite of playing just eight matches for Royal Challengers across the last three IPL seasons, Deep’s presence in the Indian Test squad was enough for owners of CSK, LSG and PBKS to try their level best in acquiring him.
Having played a solitary IPL match when it comes to the shortest format in the last 12 months, Deep could be under pressure in terms of justifying the aforementioned price tag. Only player among this pentad to have registered at a base price of INR 1 crore, the right-arm bowler used to earn INR 20 lakh at Bangalore.
Marco Jansen (INR 7 crore)
After plying his trade for MI and SRH across the last four seasons, South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen will move up north to PBKS in IPL 2025. Sold for INR 7 crore, up from his previous salary of INR 4.2 crore, Jansen allured interest from Mumbai, Punjab and Gujarat Titans.
