Highest individual scores in WPL history [Source: @wplt20/x]
An explosive innings in a T20 game can single-handedly shift momentum, turning the tide in a matter of overs. The Women’s Premier League (WPL), India’s burgeoning cricketing spectacle, has already witnessed several breathtaking knocks that have redefined dominance in the shortest format.
Celebrating WPL, here is a look at five of the highest individual scores ever recorded in the history of the tournament.
5. Tahlia McGrath – 90* vs Delhi Capitals, WPL 2023
Within the opening week of the inaugural WPL season back in 2023, Australian middle-order star Tahlia McGrath belted 90 unbeaten runs from just 50 deliveries, doing so against an experienced Delhi Capitals attack at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Chasing 212 runs for a win and arriving to the crease at a precarious 31-2 for the UP Warriorz, McGrath launched four huge sixes and 11 sizzling boundaries in her fighting knock to elevate them to a competitive 169-5 from 20 overs.
Unfortunately for McGrath, the UP Warriorz lost the match by 42 runs to the Capitals, with Jess Jonassen bagging the ‘Player of the Match’ award courtesy of her all-round efforts.
4. Harmanpreet Kaur – 95* vs Gujarat Giants, WPL 2024
Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur mounted her career-best WPL score of 95* from just 48 balls against Gujarat Giants in match 16 of the WPL 2024 season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Batting at number four, Kaur made lightwork of Gujarat Giants’ 190-run total by storming Mumbai Indians past their target in the final over.
The blistering Indian middle-order batter blasted 10 boundaries and five huge sixes in her run-chase masterclass, and shared 93 unbeaten runs with silent partner Amelia Kerr (12* off 10) off just six overs.
3. Beth Mooney – 96* vs UP Warriorz, WPL 2025
Gujarat Giants opener Beth Mooney muscled an unbeaten 96* off 59 deliveries against UP Warriorz during the backend of the WPL 2025 season. Batting first and opening the innings with Dayalan Hemalatha at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Mooney clattered 17 regal boundaries and maintained an astonishing strike rate of 162.71 in her innings.
Unfortunately for the blistering Australian cricketer, she remained stranded inside the century courtesy of a tight final over bowled by UP Warriorz spinner Sophie Ecclestone.
2. Alyssa Healy – 96* vs RCB Women, WPL 2023
UP Warriorz captain and legendary opener Alyssa Healy made a mockery of RCB bowlers during match number eight of the WPL 2023 season at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Chasing 139 runs for a win, Healy smeared 96* off just 47 deliveries with 18 boundaries and a huge six as the Warriorz rushed to a scintillating 10-wicket victory in just 13 overs.
The Australian wicketkeeper-batter also notched up the winning runs for the Warriorz, but failed to get to her century as a mistimed shot off Shreyanka Patil kept her within a boundary from getting to the landmark figure.
1. Sophie Devine – 99 vs Gujarat Giants, WPL 2023
New Zealand veteran Sophie Devine demoralized Gujarat Giants’ bowling attack back during match 16 of the WPL 2023 season at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. Left to chase down a challenging 189-run target, Devine shared 125 runs for the opening wicket with RCB captain Smriti Mandhana in just 9.2 overs. The belligerent New Zealander ended up whacking 99 runs off just 36 deliveries in the high-scoring evening, smearing nine boundaries and eight huge sixes in the process.
With 32 more runs to get in more than eight overs, Sophie Devine got holed out at mid-off to miss the chance of recording one of the fastest T20 tons, and the first-ever century in the history of WPL. Nonetheless, she won the ‘Player of the Match’ award after RCB’s easy win.
