Top 5 Cricketers With Lowest Test Bowling Average

5) Fred Trueman (21.57)

Fred Trueman, an English legend, was quite an influence in his day. Notably, Trueman was the first bowler in history to take 300 Test wickets. His most memorable spell of his career was his first five-wicket haul and his best bowling figures of 8/31. Interestingly, he accomplished both of these in only his third Test match against India in July 1952. To add to his nobleness, this performance remains the ninth-best bowling figures by an England player in Test cricket.

4) Curtly Ambrose (20.99)

Curtly Ambrose, the towering 6 ft 7-inch fast bowler from Antigua, was a force of nature on the cricket field. His 405 Test wickets at an average of 20.99 speak volumes about his dominance. The lethal Windies quick's most memorable spells were his 6 for 24 that rolled over England for a paltry 46 in Trinidad in 1993-94, and his series-clinching 7 for 1 against Australia at the WACA the previous season. With his unmatchable legacy yet to be toppled, Ambrose remains a giant of the game as he was in his days.

3) Joel Garner (20.97)

Joel "Big Bird" Garner was a dominant presence in West Indies cricket, celebrated for his incredible pace and devastating yorkers. He formed a powerful fast-bowling partnership with legends like Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall, and Andy Roberts, intimidating batters across the globe. Garner took a total of 259 wickets, placing him third on the all-time list. However, what truly distinguishes him as a remarkable figure in Test cricket is his performance during the 1984-85 series against Australia in Sydney, where he achieved remarkable figures of 5 wickets for just 30 runs.

2) Malcolm Marshall (20.94)

The 1983/84 series against India proved to be a dominant display of West Indian fast bowling, spearheaded by the legendary Malcolm Marshall. Marshall was virtually unplayable, claiming an astonishing 33 wickets throughout the series, showcasing his mastery over the Indian batters. The greatest of his generation bagged 376 wickets and now ranks just below Jasprit Bumrah in terms of bowling averages in Test matches.
