As per emerging reports, legendary former Indian cricketer Mithali Raj is set to join Gujarat Giants as the team mentor for the inaugural Women's Premier League.
As reported by News18, Mithali was eager to play in the tournament. However, her wish couldn't be fulfilled, as the franchises decided to include fresh legs in their respective teams.
Meanwhile, the Giants have approached the former captain for the mentor's role, which she will likely consider before the tournament.
Here's what a source stated
"Mithali Raj was keen to play but there was lack of interest from the teams. She will now be turning up for the Gujarat team as the mentor.
"Yes there was interest from her side to play, particularly for the team based out of Mumbai but things didn’t quite materialise the way she would have wanted and a lucrative role with the Gujarat team came her way."
Mithali had stellar success in international cricket, receiving accolades for her batting as well as leadership attributes.
In her illustrious career, the 40-year-old amassed 10868 runs in a whopping 333 international appearances across formats.
After serving India Women with distinction, the stylish batter called time on her international career in June last year.
