On August 15, 2020, former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of an illustrious career. Fondly known as "Captain Cool," Dhoni had a remarkable journey, leading India to numerous victories, including the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

His announcement came as a surprise to fans worldwide. Dhoni's leadership style, composed demeanour, exceptional skills behind the stumps, and the ability to handle pressure situations and finish matches with his aggressive batting made him a legend.

Dhoni took to Instagram on 15th August 2020 and wrote,"Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 19:29 hrs consider me as Retired."

Many may not be aware that MS Dhoni had a reason behind choosing August 15 as the day to retire. Not only does August 15 mark Independence Day, but it also marks the birthday of Dhoni's mother, Devaki Devi.

The youngest child of Paan Singh Dhoni and Devaki Devi, Dhoni was born on July 7, 1981 on Uttarakhand.

On August 15, Dhoni's wife Sakshi posted a birthday wish for her mother-in-law on Instagram. This led many to assume that Dhoni may have chosen to retire on August 15 as it marks his mother’s birthday. Dhoni’s family, except for his wife, has largely preferred to stay away from limelight and little is known about them.
