Rising force Gujarat Titans (GT) face-off against tournament powerhouse Mumbai Indians (MI) in the two teams' respective opening game of the IPL 2024 in Ahmedabad on Sunday (March 24).

The Titans are in for another mouth-watering clash with their Mumbai counterparts where the emotions are bound to run high following the two sides' controversial captaincy change, involving Gujarat's former skipper Hardik Pandya, who is now the captain of the MI ship.

For Pandya, it would be a drastic change from the last time he played the IPL, donning the Titans' colours and leading his troops against their Mumbai rivals in Ahmedabad for the marquee Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2023 where the Titans ended their opposition's trophy dreams with a comprehensive win.

Batting first, the Titans blazed their way to an insurmountable score of 233/3 in their allotted 20 overs, with their top-order match-winner and new skipper Shubman Gill dominating the show via a tremendous knock of 129 off just 60 deliveries, including 7 fours and 10 sixes.

Elegant left-hander Sai Sudharsan and captain Pandya also played influential cameos worth 43 off 31 and 28* off 13 deliveries to further take the game away from Mumbai, who were outbatted for once by the opposition after rallying on the shoulders of their top six during the competition.

Suffering a top-order collapse, MI were reduced to 21/2 before the trio of Cameron Green (30), Suryakumar Yadav (61) and Tilak Varma (43) packed a few punches on Titans. But even their spirited efforts weren't enough to resurrect MI's standings as the Titans managed to reinforce their prowess and finished with a whopping 62-run victory.

Pacer Mohit Sharma was fantastic with the ball during the second half and took a rare fifer in T20 cricket, bagging all five scalps at the cost of just 10 runs in his 2.2 overs.
