Dewald Brevis grabbed the limelight in the 2022 U19 World Cup with his AB de Villiers-style hitting and quickly made it into the IPL. However, he could not live up to the billing in the tournament, and in 11 matches, he scored only 230 runs for MI.
The South African went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, but has been added to the CSK squad as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh. He has now made his CSK debut against SRH, and the Yellove Army would be hoping that he makes an impact straightaway.
Dewald Brevis Makes IPL Comeback After Disappointing Stint With MI
His last IPL game though came in the 2024 season for Mumbai Indians against Lucknow Super Giants. The right-handed batter opened the innings in that game alongside Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium and scored 23 off 20 balls, before losing his wicket to Naveen-ul-Haq.
Brevis smashed two sixes and one four in that match, and overall in that season, he scored 69 runs in three innings. Brevis' highest score in IPL is 49, but he is coming into this season on the back of a good form and has scored truckloads of runs in first-class cricket too after productive SA20.
CSK, SRH Fight For Survival
CSK need Brevis to come out with his aggressive intent in IPL 2025, and it is one area they have been lacking. The five-time champions have won just two matches out of their eight matches so far, and now need to win almost all their games to make it to the playoffs.
Their opponents, SRH are also in the similar position, and it is a game where both teams will fight for their existence.
