The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) share a rich and diverse rivalry with the Punjab Kings franchise. Having gone up against each other on 31 occasions since the inception of the tournament until their impending IPL 2024 duel, the two teams have put up a number of high-scoring thrillers, regardless of their playing venue.

As RCB and PBKS gear up to add another chapter to their IPL lore, here is look at the last time these two teams faced each other.

When RCB faced PBKS in IPL 2023

Back on April 20, 2023 during the IPL 2023 season, a Sam Curran-led Punjab Kings hosted the RCB franchise in match number 27 of the competition.

With interim hosts skipper Curran winning the toss and opting to field first, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis shared a 137-run partnership at the top from just 16 overs. While captain Kohli struck a fluent 59, the South African-based opening batsman top-scored in the innings with an imperial 56-ball 84.

However, Kohli’s dismissal at the hands of spinner Harpreet Brar led to a slew of RCB wickets in the slog overs, with Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik both failing to capitalize on the opening blitzkrieg.

PBKS fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Nathan Ellis also chipped in with key wickets at the death to restrict RCB to 174-4 by the competition of their 20 overs.

Punjab Kings’ response, meanwhile, never took off in the run-chase as they ended up losing four of their top five batters within the opening powerplay itself. RCB’s pace master Mohammed Siraj struck twice with the new-ball, and later returned to mop up the tail to finish with match-winning figures of 4-21.

While Wayne Parnell, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel also delivered timely breakthroughs in the innings; it was Siraj who was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ after RCB stole their two points with a 24-run win.
