West Indies suffered a shock 9-wicket defeat at the hands of Ireland in their last qualifying game on Friday.

After winning the toss, the two-time T20 World Cup champions batted first and scored a mere 146 on the board, which was not enough in the end.

Ireland's opening duo of Paul Stirling (66*) and Andrew Balbirnie (37) made a mockery of the total and Lorcan Tucker (45*) gave the finishing touches as Ireland made it through to the Super 12 stage.

With a humiliating exit from the World Cup, West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran was disappointed with how things panned out for his side.

"It's tough! we haven't batted well at all in the tournament. When you score just 146 on the surface, it gets difficult to defend. Congratulations to Ireland for playing well.

King batted well and Alzarri Joseph has been good as well, but our overall performance was not upto the mark. We have been disappointing, I have disappointed the fans back home," Pooran said at the post-match presentation.

With that emphatic win, Ireland have topped their qualifying group, but the position can change, depending upon the Scotland-Zimbabwe game.
