Even though the Kiwis lost the toss, they sealed a splendid win by an innings and 58 run win against Sri Lanka during the second test match on Monday at Wellington.

While talking about the team and their commendable efforts Captain Tim Southee said that the spirit and courage shown by the New Zealand side throughout the season has been beyond wonderful.

"There was a lot of character shown in the home summer and Pakistan as well. We got ourselves in positions to win there - a couple of familiar faces stepping up, and we've shown character to bounce back after losses. It's nice that Test cricket is ticking along,"

New Zealand's first Test win against the Lions was a nail biting and jaw clinching match with Kane Williamson getting almost run out at the last ball of the game. Moreover, their second win was completed with only numbered minutes remaining on the fourth day of the match.

Talking about how reliving it was to not visit the field again and finishing the test at the same day, Southee said:

"It was getting a little dark, and with the forecast not looking great, it was one of the reasons for enforcing the follow-on. It's one thing you can't control. Tomorrow's forecast wasn't looking great so it was nice to get the last one tonight and not have to come back tomorrow,"

He also expressed the playing conditions in Wellington were challenging however the Test cricket format is all about beating the odds and facing the adversity. He said:

"That can happen in Wellington. I can't remember the camera being taken down too many times. Very trying conditions. Some heavy legs, and some horrible conditions at times, but the guys managed to find a way to get the job done."

Despite New Zealand's win, this Test series did wonders for Sri Lanka as they performed exceptionally well. Even though the team is fairly inexperienced, they showed impeccable signs of growth and this tour has undoubtedly been a great learning experience for the entire Sri Lankan cricket team.
