In a rare record for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Virat Kohli remains their only Indian batter to score 1000 or more runs in the history of the IPL.
Interestingly, RCB happens to be the only team to have just one domestic player who has 1000-plus IPL runs in his tally with every other active franchise, who have featured since the first IPL season, having at least two such batters.
Kohli is an RCB product and has been an imprint of the red and gold jersey right from the start of the competition, being the top-scorer (7,044) in the IPL and also the solitary batter to break through the 7000-run mark.
However, it can be taken for a fact that RCB's poor returns in the tournament have more to do with them not grooming the players.
After Kohli, AB de Villers (4,491), Chris Gayle (3,163) and Jacques Kallis (1,132) are sequenced as the highest run-getters for RCB, with Rahul Dravid (898) being the next Indian batter in the list.
The scene did not change for Bangalore in IPL 2023 with Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell doing all the heavy lifting.
With five wins in 11 matches, RCB are at the seventh position in the points table as of now and their next fixture is scheduled against Rajasthan Royals on May 14 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
