Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, known for his flamboyant batting and remarkable contributions to Indian cricket, is celebrating his 53rd birthday today (January 18, 2025). On his special occasion, an old and rare interview of Kambli has surfaced on social media, which captured his rare emotions and love for the game.
The interview, shared by Prasar Bharati Archives on their Instagram account, offers a glimpse into Kambli’s early cricketing journey. In the clip, young Kambli is seen passionately talking about his background and love for cricket. He also revealed how his journey began in childhood, driven by a singular dream to don the Indian jersey.
“I started playing cricket as a child, and from that moment, I knew I wanted to play for India,” Kambli said in the interview.
It is important to mention that Vinod Kambli made his international debut in October 1991 in ODI against Pakistan. The former cricketer represented India in 104 ODIs and made 2477 at an average of 32.59. Talking about his Test cricket contribution, he made his debut against England in January 1993. He has played 17 Tests and scored 1084 runs at an average of 54.20.
Kambli's flamboyant style on and off the field made him a fan favourite, though his career was cut short due to inconsistent performances and off-field controversies.
