Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is known for his amicable nature and ability to remain unfazed by circumstances. While the player has been excluded from the Indian team after captaining them just three months ago, Dhawan has not lost his zeal to participate in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India.
The southpaw's recent performance, scoring only 49 runs in his last five ODI innings, led to his omission from the team for the home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Subsequently, his replacement, Shubman Gill, delivered a record-breaking double-century and two centuries in six innings.
Speaking to the news agency PTI, Delhi-based cricketer maintained a positive attitude and expressed his satisfaction with his career, stating that he is not overly anxious to return to the team.
“They (ups and downs) are part of life. With time, with experience you learn how to handle them with ease. I find lot of strength in them. I did my best. If somebody is doing better than my best, that is fine," Dhawan told the news agency.
According to Dhawan, the batters who are there instead of him because they are performing better, and added that he is very happy and content wherever he is.
Despite his temporary exclusion from the Indian team, Dhawan has had a successful career, having played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. For a number of years now, he has been selected exclusively for 50-over cricket.
In the same interaction, Dhawan went on to state that he does not hold a feeling of desperation to make a return to the Indian cricket team. The left-handed batter stated that he is content with his achievements so far and does not attach too much importance to whether or not he makes a comeback to the team.
As the Indian cricket team is presently occupied with international commitments, the swashbuckling opener is prepping up for the IPL 2023 where he is slated to captain Punjab Kings.
With the IPL scheduled to commence soon, he is expected to join the Mohali camp from February 24, where the team is set to regroup and commence their preparation.
