Afghanistan's national cricket team will embark on a new journey with a revamped 18-member squad for the three-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates. The team, led by the stalwart Rashid Khan, has undergone a substantial transformation with a significant overhaul of seven players from the T20 World Cup squad last year.

Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi, who quit the captaincy after the tournament, has notably been excluded from the team. The newly revamped squad includes a blend of experienced and novice players.

Zahir Khan, along with Rahmat Shah, a regular in the ODI side, have been added to the team, with the prospect of debuting in T20Is. Furthermore, Afsar Zazai, Noor Ahmad, and Nijat Masood, each with less than five T20Is under their belts, have been brought back into the squad.

Meanwhile, Karim Jannat, who last played for Afghanistan in the Asia Cup has also found a place in the squad. Sharafuddin Ashraf, who was a reserve for the T20 World Cup, has also been summoned to the team.

Notably, Nabi isn’t the only one to face the axe. T20 globetrotters Qais Ahmad, Darwish Rasooli, Mohammad Saleem, and Usman Ghani have been omitted from the squad. On the other hand, Rashid, Qais, and Farooqi are among the returning players who are coming after playing in different T20 leagues around the world.

The three-match T20I series will get underway on February 16, with the last two matches on February 18 & 19.  All the games will be played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
