Tim Southee Registers his 3rd Most Expensive Spell in IPL History
New Zealand seamer Tim Southee endured a forgettable afternoon at IPL 2023 on Saturday as the right-arm seamer registered 3rd most expensive figures in his IPL career.
Southee, who is representing the Kollata Knight Riders, was taken for 54 runs in his quota of 4 overs by the rampant Punjab Kings' batters at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali.
The veteran seamer endured a worst possible start to his spell as he was taken for a couple of fours by PBKS opener Prabhsimran Singh off his first two deliveries.
Singh then backed it up with an audacious six over cow-corner, but it was Southee, who had the last laugh as the seamer nicked him off on the last delivery of his 1st over.
A forgettable day at the office for Southee
However, it continued to get worse for the New Zealand Test skipper as Shikhar Dhawan greeted him with a couple of cracking fours in the next over.
After a couple of expensive overs, Southee was taken out of the attack.
He came into the attack in the 14th over, and while he did dismiss Jitesh Sharma, the right-arm seamer was still taken for a four and six.
The veteran seamer finished a wretched day for himself with another disappointing final over, where he was taken for 15 by Sam Curran.
Southee finished with figures of 2/54 (4); the third-most expensive spell he has ever delivered in his IPL career.
Most expensive IPL spells by Southee:
- 0/61 vs KKR, IPL 2019
- 0/57 vs LSG, IPL 2022
- 2/54 vs PBKS, IPL 2023
